From those who have followed my old blog, you would know that on Saturday, I undergone Laski eye surgery. My eye sight was pretty bad. I was nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other…this is very rare. If I couldn’t be any weirder, I found out I’m left eye dominant but I am right handed. Not sure how I was able to convince the eye doctor that I wasn’t just pulling her chain and pretending to be right handed. I mean she should have been grateful when I wrote the check of payment in full WITH MY RIGHT HAND! Ha! On top of all that, I had a terrible astigmatism…which usually only guarantees an insignificant improvement after lasik.
The day of my surgery happened to be the brightest day I swear of the whole year! Walking into that office, I knew I’d sure be in for a extravagance. I met with the surgeon and he explained all in excessive detail the steps of the procedure. I went into my mental happy place because I know I would have busted through that glass door and ran….I’m very sensitive when it comes to my eyes.
What seemed like hundreds of drops later, I was being swung under a few machines, went blind for a moment when they opened the flap of the eye and saw an annoying bright red blinking light during the actual procedure. The whole time I’m holding onto this stuffed animal frog. Well when it came to my right eye, the numbing drops must have worn off. Let’s just say I sure felt him lift the flap of my eye. It felt as if someone took a razor blade to my eye ball. That stuffed frog was being squeezed in my hands.
The whole procedure took about 10 minutes. I couldn’t stop crying from the blinding sun and the excruciating burning sensations in my eyes. When I got home, I closed all the blinds…hid out in my bat cave, strapped on my Old School goggles and slept like the whole day. When I awoke, I got to see the nasty red eye hickeys that I apparently will be having for a few more weeks. People stare….and its just not my imagination.
LONG story short….Today was my follow up visit. I have been living on eye drops the past few days. My eye sight I believe is not too perfect. It keeps fluctuating and they keep going dry. The optometrist explained that my eye sight would sharpen in the next few weeks. Believe it or not, I found out my vision is now 20/20. I was actually guaranteed by 99% that my eyes wouldn’t even be CLOSE to 20/20. I’m just flabbergasted!
I basically see life in a new way. I see shapes differently and I do not have to guess about things that I’m seeing. Would I ever get Lasik again if I needed a correction? HELLS NO!
